doing a quick survey among friends, i find that all of them are voting the same way they said they would months ago.
i also found that they are not doing this because of the fact that a political ad showed them something new, or convinced them on some one's character.
instead, they made this decision based on what they have seen in the news, the world and their own life.
Can not wait until Tuesday is passed.
Amen to that. All the ads and then the politicos bitch about the high cost of conducting campaigns. I like to watch debates but those are getting rarer. Just 6 more days. Too bad the '08 posturing is already beginning.

Now that its been mentioned, I do remember attendance at the hall spiked when Halloween fell on a meeting night. A bit like a mini-memorial or co visit. Kind of sad. Seeking refuge from a bunch of grade schoolers dressed like gobblins. "Protect us jehovah!"

I got mine last week and happened to be home when it was delivered. A woman come up my steps and then a second later walked away. I assumed she was a political campaign volunteer dropping off candidate fliers. It looked like she was by herself. Maybe she had a partner who stayed at the bottom of the steps out of eyesight. I read the tract and tossed it. The end.
of course, as it's the murdering, war-crime-committing, un-mandate-ignoring, nuclear-non-proliferation-flouting israeli friends of america, they probably won't see it as an issue at all.. funny that ... they were dead keen on going to war over just the hint of this very thing but probably won't even condemn it.. it's about time that sanctions were imposed on israel.

The congregation I grew up in was like the one serendipity described. Dirt poor and down to earth. Too bad it is defunct. The wealthiest hall I attended was in Scotsdale, AZ. Lots of luxury cars in the parking lot and people dressed nice. Seemed like the congregation wasn't very inclined to get out in service. That congregation wasn't nearly as friendly as my home congregation but I think that is more a city folk vs country folk comparison than a rich vs poor comparison. One similarity I noticed at the various halls I attended was that the double lifers pretty much did the same things. Drink and screw.
i recently heard about a congregation that was "diabanded".
the publishers were reassigned to other congregations.
is this happening elsewhere or just a local thing?
I remember when I was in high school a church closed its doors. The congregation buzzed that the closing of the church was the beginning of the collapse of christendom. As I said I was still in high school. You know, young and dumb. I tossed out the idea that the church closed because the days of 12 kid families was pretty much over and what kids families had didn't stick around the family farm opting instead for college or city jobs and that was the reason the church was shuttered. This idea was dismissed as crazy talk. A couple of years later the congregation was told that our little kingdom hall was being closed as there were not enough people attending. Changing demographics was cited as the reason for dwindling attendance at the hall, not the collapse of christendom.
this morning while i was waiting in line to get a cup of coffee a gentleman in a suit approched the counter and gave the girl behind the counter the new tract and said that he is taking part in a world wide distribution of an important message then handed the tract to the lady and walked away.
the girl looked puzzled and promptly put the tract in the garbage can without even looking at it.
the jw got in his car and took off down the road toward the interstate.. two obervations.
At least he didn't start babbling on and on about the troof and hold the line up. I stopped at a c-store where there was an elderly sister pitching the good news to the cashier. The cashier was polite about it and was saying, "Thanks for the book. Will a dollar cover it? Well have a great day. Bible study? Maybe...stop again. Ok, bye bye now." But the sister seemed oblivious and kept showing the illustrations and bible quotes. There were maybe 7 or 8 people waiting getting more frustrated by the second. She finally left (probably no more then a couple of minutes but it seemed a lot longer). I'd bet that she was really excited about placing the book with the clerk she had held hostage. If she had hung around and listened to the comments made by the other customers (effing jesus freak, damned nut case, etc) she would have gloried in the devil inspired persecution.
